Deconstructing

My last post — Sunday Confessional — appeared to have created a few problems. The interesting thing about it is that I am fairly sure that a few people never got past the first two sentences. I say that because if they had, they would have understood that I was expressing that unintentionally, I’ve benefited from the systems that have been put in place to ensure that white people, especially white men, remain in power in this country.

Let me repeat that:

I’ve unintentionally benefited from the systems that have been put in place to ensure that white people, especially white men, remain in power in this country.

What does this mean exactly?

Well, if you ascribe to the messages that Saira Rao and Regina Jackson have been amplifying, this means that I am a racist.

Tough admission. Tough pill to swallow. Every damn button has been pushed.

However, I’ve spent a lot of my life hiding and not living my truth. And I’m done doing that.

So, if this admission about me makes you feel uncomfortable or have second thoughts about being connected with me, then you are not hearing or understanding what I am saying. Or perhaps it pushes your buttons.

That is for you to figure out.
